Almost Gardening Time

Finally after 7 months, we got rain last night.  I didn’t actually see it, but the ground was good and wet this morning so it must have rained.  By the time Richard got home from work the sun was shining, it was windy but warm and comfortable outside.  He borrowed a tiller from a friend and had the itch to dig up a veggie patch for us.  I was so excited!  He got the outline done, a feel for the tiller and a hand in the rich, brown, North Dakota dirt.  Such a blessing after our hard and rocky Tennessee clay.  The soil here is BEAUTIFUL.  We can’t wait to begin planting!  Corn, white, red & sweet potatoes, green beans, peas, spinach, tomatoes, bell peppers, cukes, lettuce, carrots, black & kidney beans, black-eye peas, garlic, onions, strawberries, herbs – the list is endless, as will be my canning and freezing sessions (hopefully!)  Time to get used to a much shorter growing season.  Next year, our present garden shed becomes a greenhouse!  Can I hear a ya-hooo?  That will certainly help us to get the season started early 🙂
